Practical information for Swift Kickstart / Intermediate Swift attendees

March 9th, 2018

On Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday a part of the appdevcon visitors will gather in the Holiday Inn Arena Towers Amsterdam for a few days of in-depth training by Daniel Steinberg. In this post we’ll share some practical information regarding the Daniel Steinberg training. Note that this training requires a separate ticket, if you have a ticket that says ‘Conference Only’ or ‘Tutorials and Conference’ then it does not include the Swift training days.

The ‘Swift Kickstart‘ training is on Monday, March 12. The ‘Intermediate Swift‘ training is on Tuesday and Wednesday. Your ticket tells you which training you have access to.

If you booked tickets that include the hotel room, you should have received information regarding your stay already. If not, contact

arenatowersThe tutorial day is at Holiday Inn Arena Towers Amsterdam. (Hoogoorddreef 66b, 1101 BE Amsterdam-Zuidoost, Google Maps Link.

If you come by car, there is a (paid) parking at the hotel and plenty of (paid) parking garages nearby. Since parking in Amsterdam is expensive, we recommend using public transport instead. The nearest train station is Amsterdam Bijlmer-Arena and there are lines (for example metro line 54) between Amsterdam Centraal and Amsterdam Bijlmer Arena. From there it’s a few minutes walk towards Holiday Inn.

For general public transport advice: is a helpful site in Dutch and English. Here’s a useful map of the Amsterdam trams and metros.

The appdevcon Swift trainings are in the ‘Leidse’ room on the 1st floor of the Holiday Inn. In the hotel, ask at reception for directions toward the Appdevcon training room.

Bring your ticket, either printed or (preferred even) on your phone. (We may ask for an ID to confirm it’s your ticket).

We will not hand out badges yet, on Thursday or Friday you will receive a badge for the tutorial day and/or conference day.

Code of Conduct

We have adopted a code of conduct that helps us make the conference a welcome and safe place for everyone. You can find the code of conduct here.

Things you will need

For both the Swift Kickstart and Intermediate Swift training it is convenient if you bring a macbook with Xcode pre-installed (get it from the mac App Store, it’s free). If you don’t have a macbook then you can maybe work together on assignments with one of the other attendees.

You do not need to bring anything else, unless you want to bring some local delicacies for Daniel Steinberg ;-).

Coffee, tea, water are available throughout the training days (no charge), during the afternoon break there are soft drinks. Lunch will be provided as well (buffet).

Feedback and help

Throughout the day, if you need any help, find any of the Egeniq people (we wear recognisable shirts); we’ll be monitoring Twitter as well (follow @appdevconnl on twitter for up to the minute information). You can also join us in our Slack channel.

That’s all!

We hope this post gives you a heads-up of what to expect!

See you next week,
