Working with BLE

This session was presented at Mdevcon 2016.

Heart rate monitors, sensors, wearables, and other gadgets that interact with your iOS devices are multiplying around us. Ever wonder how they work behind the scenes? We’ll help you understand how Bluetooth Low Energy works and break down the best approach to using Apple’s Core Bluetooth framework. We’ll also share tips and best practices that we’ve learned when communicating with various BLE-enabled devices.

Shiney Rossi is a Software Development Manager at Nest Labs. Before catching the iOS bug 5 years ago, she worked on early mobile applications and high-performance scalable servers. She loves working on software that interacts with hardware. She holds a degree in computer science from Northeastern University. When she isn’t in front of a screen, you can find her out in nature, usually on a hike.

Ben Deming is an iOS developer at Nest Labs working on features to support the thoughtful home. Previously he had the fortune to work with companies and organizations large and small to help them join the mobile revolution with great iOS apps. He’s enjoyed iOS and mobile development since 2008. Ben calls the Bay Area home, and when not behind the comforting glow of LCD screens, you’ll find this gearhead behind the wheel or scheming his next great travel escape.
