Practical information for Appdevcon Tuesday/Wednesday training attendees

March 11th, 2019

On Tuesday/Wednesday a part of the appdevcon visitors will gather in Spaces Vijzelstraat for a few days of in-depth training by Daniel Steinberg or to participate in our Soft Skill workshops. In this post we’ll share some practical information regarding the training days. Note that this training requires a separate ticket, if you have a ticket that says ‘Conference Only’ or ‘Tutorials and Conference’ then it does not include the training days. Your ticket tells you which training you have access to.

Travel

The training days are at Spaces Vijzelstraat. (Vijzelstraat 68, 1017 HL Amsterdam, Google Maps Link.

If you come by car, there is a (paid) parking (‘Prins & Keizer’) below the Spaces building, but note that it has a maximum car height of 1m70. Other parkings nearby include Kalvertoren and Bank. Since parking in Amsterdam is expensive, we recommend using public transport instead. The nearest train station is Amsterdam Centraal and there are tram and metro lines (for example metro line 52, stop at ‘Vijzelgracht’) between Amsterdam Centraal and Spaces. (Google maps can tell you the lines).

For general public transport advice: 9292.nl is a helpful site in Dutch and English. Here’s a useful map of the Amsterdam trams and metros.

Registration

The appdevcon trainings are in various rooms on the 1st floor of Spaces. Ask at reception for directions toward the Appdevcon training rooms. We’ll have signs on the rooms to indicate which training is where.

Bring your ticket, either printed or (preferred even) on your phone. (We may ask for an ID to confirm it’s your ticket).

We will not hand out badges yet, on Thursday or Friday you will receive a badge for the tutorial day and/or conference day.

Code of Conduct

We have adopted a code of conduct that helps us make the conference a welcome and safe place for everyone. You can find the code of conduct here.

Things you will need

For the Swift training it is convenient if you bring a macbook with Xcode pre-installed (get it from the mac App Store, it’s free). If you don’t have a macbook then you can maybe work together on assignments with one of the other attendees. The Soft Skill training sessions do not require a macbook or laptop.

You do not need to bring anything else, unless you want to bring some local delicacies for Daniel Steinberg or the other trainers ;-).

Catering

Coffee, tea, water are available throughout the training days (no charge), during the afternoon break there are soft drinks. Lunch will be provided as well.

Feedback and help

Throughout the day, if you need any help, find any of the Egeniq people (we wear recognisable shirts); we’ll be monitoring Twitter as well (follow @appdevconnl on twitter for up to the minute information). You can also join us in our Slack channel.

That’s all!

We hope this post gives you a heads-up of what to expect!

See you this week,
Ivo
